Molly Whittaker

Congratulations to Molly Whittaker who received the Sir Peter Blake Trust Young Leaders Award at assembly last term.  Sir Peter Blake believed in the incredible potential of young kiwis to achieve great things.  He knew that by inspiring leaders of any age could be found in every corner of New Zealand. Sir Peter showed all of us there are leaders and there are dreamers.  Leaders make things happen and Dreamers have a vision.  The truly special people do both. In that spirit and in partnership with Westpac, this award is offered each year to a Year 5-8 student in every NZ primary and intermediate school during Leadership Week.
Molly received this award for her exceptional leadership, using her initiative, working well and communicating with her peers and teachers and not being afraid of a hard task and getting stuck in and all with a great attitude. Molly received a pair of 'lucky red socks', a medal, badge and certificate from Colleen Newberry from Westpac.

Molly also entered an Otago Museum Capture Science photography competition which was open to anyone in Otago including adults.  She won the inaugural spot prize for her picture of a rusty chain and the judges were very impressed that no-one had taken a photo like this before.

Students will choose from the song list below and sing one verse and one chorus.  This year we are modifying the Duet competition to also include groups of 3-6 participants.  Auditions for Duets/Groups need to be able to present their song choice with harmony.  Duets/Groups can be mixed boy/girl and mixed houses.  Song choices for auditions are:

Soloist                                                          Duet/Group

Finalists may choose their own song and accompanist.  Backing tracks may be used but they must only be instrumental.  A TIME LIMIT of 3 minutes is required.  Finals will be held on Wednesday 20th September in our school hall starting at 9.15 am sharp with house choirs for Yrs 4-8 and finalist winners performing later that night at St Kevin's College which is to be confirmed.

The judges have the following marking criteria:
